The Tulsa World newspaper has sent threatening letters to BatesLine and some other Oklahoma based blogs. As you probably guessed, these bloggers have been critical of the Tulsa World’s coverage of local events. The newspaper has demanded that remove all quots and excerpts of their content and (get this) they also demand the removal of "unauthorized hyperlinks" to their web site. Unauthorized hyperlinks? Oh my. That stupid concept came and went years ago, but apparently time flows more slowly in the World’s rarified atmosphere.
Looks like yet another instance of alleged journalists arguing for restrictions on free speech and exclusive control over the spread of information. That seems backward to me, but there seems to be a lot of it going around these days.
