Last year I used itunes to rip my cds to aac only to find pops, cracks and hisses in the rips. I use dBpowerAMP to rip now, works pretty good. I dont like the fact that Apple has bundled itunes with quicktime. One can’t just download quicktime anymore, itunes is included.
I use winamp for mp3 and shoutcast servers. Pat, if you get the lite version you wont get any ‘bloatware’. The d/l is only 742k.
Windows Media player for avi/mpg.
I do use VLC to ‘preview’ video.
And ofcourse Real for ra files. Real has gotten better with their install routine, but it still kinda sucks.
No kidding, WinAmp is heading toward peership with the bloatware giants Winblows Media Player and RealMedia Player! I’ve been tempted time and again of late to go back to version 2.x. I’ll have to do a Gilligan’s Island benchmark via CTRL-ALT-DEL on iTunes and WinAmp, and maybe that Foobar I’ve heard of…
