I was initially surprised to read that many Amish have embraced genetically modified crops but the article explains the issue well. It’s ironic that the Amish, guided by their strong religious beliefs, are more progressive than many self-styled environmentalists. (Though maybe there is hope for them yet.)
Contrary to popular belief, the Amish are a fairly pragmatic lot. They aren’t frightened by modern inventions or opposed to all technology, they’re just very selective about adopting technology that would alter their unique lifestyle in a negative way. I suspect that someday our great-great-grandkids living on Moon Colony 6 will buy their fresh vegetables from the orbiting Amish agro-stations.
