Well, well. Looks like Adobe is buying Macromedia.
This could be good, or it could be bad. Most of Adobe’s products are powerful and pleasant to use once you get familiar with them. No one would claim Photoshop or Illustrator are easy to use, but they’re consistent and efficient for power users.
Other Adobe apps, however, are downright user-hostile. The more you use them, the more you hate them. Acrobat is a good example. It’s slow, memory hungry, non-intuitive, and in serious need of a revised user interface. And the software update function interrupts when you’re trying to use it, and then often fails and crashes the program.
Macromedia has put a lot of effort into making their UI and plugins functional and friendly. Let’s hope Adobe knows enough to leave a good thing alone.
