The Electric Company was a kids’ show back in the 70’s. Like Sesame Street, except funkier. But really, with Morgan Freeman on the cast, how could it not be funky? Some dedicated fans have compiled an index of all the songs used in the show. One thing I never noticed when I was 6 years old: cast member Rita Moreno was really kinda hot. Apparently other people think so too.

The opening title sequence for the first couple seasons used a lot of early analog computer graphics which were pretty cool. But the later variation up above (used on Season 5) is the version I remember best.

Movin’ out in a new way
Movin’ out in a new way
We’re gonna turn it on (turn it on)
We’re gonna bring you the power (you can do it)

We’re gonna light the dark of night like the brightest day in a whole new way
We’re Gonna Turn it On (do do do)
We’re Gonna Bring you the Power (do do do do)
We’re gonna tell you the truest words that you heard anybody say

We’re gonna turn it on
We’re gonna bring you the power

It’s coming down the lines, strong as they can be

Catchy, isn’t it?

Wow, this is a really great little story. Someone going out of their way – from all the way on the other side of the world, in fact – just to do something nice for someone they’d never even met. Be sure and read the scanned letter, too.
